AV Technician

Education Requirement:
A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of college education and related experience in instructional support may also serve to meet these minimum requirements.

Required Qualifications:

• Professional installation (typically 2-3 years) using varied installation and technology concepts including but not limited to cable pulling, cable terminating and soldering, mounting, wire and rack management, mechanical fabrication, and use of power tools.
• Understanding of schematic drawings for A/V installation
• Understanding of bid proposals and project budgets for A/V system integrations
• Experience performing troubleshooting on large enterprise A/V systems
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including the ability to markup project documents, write and deliver clear instructions, and create work summaries.
• Experience in terminating and testing Category 5e, 6, and 6a cables
• Experience installing components of audiovisual architecture and infrastructure
• Demonstrated ability to work both individually and as part of a project team
• Ability to routinely move and transport computer and audiovisual equipment up to 50 pounds
• Driver's License and ability to meet the University of Iowa’s Fleet Safety Requirements https://opsmanual.uiowa.edu/administrative-financial-and-facilities-policies/risk-management-insurance-and-loss-prevention-5  

Desired Qualifications:

• Certifications: Infocomm CTS, Infocomm CTS-I, Extron, Crestron, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, or other industry certifications
• Knowledge of Visio, AutoCAD, Blue Beam, or similar software applications
• Knowledge of Extron, Crestron, or similar audiovisual equipment
• Experience with computer networking and/or security
• Experience planning, organizing, and executing projects in an audiovisual or information technology environment
• Demonstrated ability to analyze needs and determine appropriate requirements for installation of audiovisual architecture and infrastructure
• Knowledge of A/V control programs and control interfaces
• Knowledge of CSI Division 27
