Education Requirement:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Experience (typically 3 months – 1 year) supporting communication infrastructure (i.e. copper cable, fiber, mechanical, and electrical) in dedicated IT rooms, including terminating and testing Category 6, and 6a cables or other low-voltage cable systems.
  • Knowledge of network cabling topologies, cross-connects, and color coding.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies in both technical and non-technical environments.
  • Proficient in using personal computers and Microsoft Office productivity suite software and common applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills including the ability to write and deliver clear and concise instructions, reports, and work summaries, as well as good interpersonal skills, strong customer service, and customer relation skills.
  • Ability to accomplish day-to-day tasks including ascending/descending ladders, working in confined spaces, moving and transporting materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver's license and be able to meet the University of Iowa’s Fleet Safety requirements (see website for info) https://opsmanual.uiowa.edu/administrative-financial-and-facilities-policies/risk-management-insurance-and-loss-prevention#15.7 .

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Industry certifications (EIA/TIA, NEC, NFPA, and BICSI or other.)
  • Proficiency with construction techniques, and or engineering software and structured cabling.
