IT Manager - Communications Infrastructure
The Physical Infrastructure team, part of Information Technology Services at the University of Iowa is seeking a Communications Infrastructure Manager to provide leadership and technical expertise for the team, overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the University’s communication and IT infrastructure. Responsibilities include updating and enforcing CSI Division 27 standards, leading technical design meetings, developing detailed engineering plans for underground pathways and fiber optic networks, and managing critical integrated systems such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, Milestone, ITConnect, and GPS Surveying tools.
This position will also have a heavy focus on supervisory responsibilities, including supervising professional and student staff, providing mentorship, training, task delegation, and performance management while fostering a positive and safety-conscious environment. This position will manage multiple projects simultaneously, establish and monitor budgets, and conduct post-project analysis. This person will also be expected to evaluate emerging technologies, such as new camera systems and GIS applications, to ensure the University’s communications infrastructure strategy aligns with enterprise business goals and evolving campus needs. This position will also be responsible for coordinating contractor work, enforcing safety standards, and collaborating closely with Facilities Management and external MEP professionals to ensure robust, sustainable work solutions.
This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.
This is an onsite position.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a field relevant to the position or an equivalent combination of education and additional related experience.
- Extensive experience (typically 5 years or more) supporting communication infrastructure, including planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of wired and wireless network infrastructure.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills, along with an ability to be systematic, technically curious, and self-motivated.
- Demonstrated, highly advanced ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies (including internal staff, campus collaborators, and contractors) in both technical and non-technical environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write and deliver clear and concise instructions, reports, and work summaries.
- Superior interpersonal, customer service, and customer relations skills.
- Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
- Familiarity with CSI Div 27
- Proficiency with construction techniques, Bluebeam or other similar related drafting software, and structured cabling.

Desirable Qualifications:
- Industry certifications such as BICSI Technician, RCDD, or Project Management or related.
- Experience supporting technology in an enterprise level configuration (500+ users)
- Experience evaluating vendor options, negotiating vendor contracts, and making budget recommendations.
- Experience supporting technology in a higher education environment.
- Basic knowledge of RFI, RFP, and RFQ documents.
