OSP Design Engineer:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  • Experience (typically 1 year or more) supporting Cabling plant, including planning, development, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Proficient in construction techniques.
  • Ability to routinely move and transport computer and audiovisual equipment up to 50 pounds.  Ability to position self to securely install, mount, and/or hang a wide range of audiovisual equipment and ascend/descend ladders.
  • Working knowledge of standard practices for low-voltage system installation and cable labeling.
  • Working knowledge of the latest trends in outside cable plant
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to markup project documents, write and deliver clear instructions, and create work summaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both individually and as part of a coordinated project team. 
  • Working familiarity with CSI Division 27 standards for construction specifications. 
  • Valid US driver’s license with the ability to meet the University of Iowa’s Fleet Safety Requirements: https://opsmanual.uiowa.edu/administrative-financial-and-facilities-policies/risk-management-insurance-and-loss-prevention-5 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Low-voltage related certifications such as BICSI technician or Project Management.
  • Some project management experience, including preparing bid proposals and project budgets.
  • Experience supporting technology in an enterprise level configuration (500+ users).
  • Experience installing, terminating, splicing, testing, fiber optic cabling.
  • Experience supporting technology in a higher education environment.

OSP Senior Design Engineer

  • Experience (typically 3 years or more) supporting Cabling plant, including planning, development, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Some project management experience, including preparing bid proposals and project budgets, or closely related.
  • Proficient in construction techniques.
  • Ability to routinely move and transport computer and audiovisual equipment up to 50 pounds.  Ability to position self to securely install, mount, and/or hang a wide range of audiovisual equipment and ascend/descend ladders.
  • Working knowledge of standard practices for low-voltage system installation and cable labeling.

Information Technology Services will be hiring for one level listed within this requisition, depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.
