The Department of Pathology is seeking an Application Developer to serve as the primary Social Media Manager. The Social Media Manager will: proactively identify of content in collaboration with key leaders/constituents across the department; revise, develop, and maintain Social Media accounts for a variety of uses/platforms across the Department (education, research, recruitment, marketing, outreach, etc.); develop and monitor analytics related to the impact of social media on various initiatives; and other related tasks such as report writing, dissemination of information. 

This position is 100% time, typically Monday – Friday 1st, 0800-1700. Hybrid work is possible after appropriate training.

Hybrid work must be completed within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Other duties to include:

  • Collaborates with other Application Developers and other key stakeholders to develop a plan to transition the in-house developed departmental web resources to a content management system (CMS) in the future. 
  • Creates applications and designs frameworks for social media posts that meet user/customer needs.
  • Responsible for building, testing, implementing, supporting and analyzing various web applications in the Department of Pathology.
  • Analyzes current social media platforms used in the Department, identifies possible future applications for future use.  Maintains knowledge and awareness of trends in social media, initiates suggestions for adoption of new platforms and or revision of current platforms based on departmental need/strategies.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, or MIS, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of experience designing, developing and maintaining large scale data driven web applications in a professional, academic or health care environment.
  • Working experience with Drupal or other CMS platforms.
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL including knowledge of database modeling and principles of database design.  
  • Working experience with web development programming languages (including JavaScript) and frameworks.
  • Basic knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating system.
  • Excellent communication and customer relations skills, including the ability to effectively communicate highly technical concepts to all audiences and to demonstrate receptivity to constructive feedback from content developers, editors, and leadership staff.
  • Knowledge of best practices for web accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
  • Working experience with use of Social Media Platforms in the professional workplace.  

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with digital storytelling.
  • Experience with PHP and jQuery.
  • Experience with photography.
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures.
